Boys & Girls Club celebrations will include education about career opportunities, leadership, understanding, brotherhood and scholarship with a kid's favorite Friday cook-out.

As part of the week-long National Boys & Girls Club Week celebration the Douglas County Boys & Girl’s Club is joining other clubs throughout the nation in making this event one to remember.

“The Boys & Girls Club has been serving the Douglas County youth for 31 years and is extremely proud to start so many great futures. Under the guidance of our Executive Director, Steve Hord, our Club is a place where we are nurturing and growing the leaders of tomorrow, ” said Doris Isaacs, Douglas County’s Club Board Chair. At no time is that more evident than in the activities surrounding this celebration.

Starting April 8 the Club will engage in activities to support Club goals. They will include recognizing and preventing alcohol abuse, examining and preparing for college and career opportunities, leadership, understanding, brotherhood and scholarship with a kid’s favorite Friday cook-out.

Each piece of art is inspired by kids and teens at the club who are focused on reaching their dreams and the dedicated staff members who are helping them get there, according to a news release.  Douglas County’s own club members Aliyah Lee, Door # 029 “Home,” Nubia Livermore, Door #208 “Poet,” and Courtney Gorman and Daniel Hall, Door #030 “Tape” are entered in the competition.

Their works and the stories behind them can be viewed with all other clubs’ entries at  www.75bluedoors.org, voted upon with a winner being selected at the end of the display period April 30. For live viewing, the city of Atlanta has opened its doors for the art pieces at various locations to include Atlanta City Hall, the FOX Theatre, SunTrust Plaza, Atlanta History Center and Turner Field.
