85-Year-Old Can't Afford Beloved Pet's Surgery, Donations Being Accepted

Ms. Rose lives on her social security and can not afford the surgery, Douglas County Cat Rescuer Pat Hopper told Douglasville Patch in an email.

Ginger is a 7-year-old dog with three tumors and needs a difficult surgery, that will cost $502. That's a sad enough story but this dog belongs to an 85-year-old woman (Ms. Rose) whose son recently and suddenly died, leaving her with Ginger the boxer.

Ms. Rose lives on her social security and can not afford the surgery, Douglas County Cat Rescuer Pat Hopper told Douglasville Patch in an email.

"Ms. Rose loves Ginger and says she can't bear to lose her," reads the email. "Ginger is such a good girl and is her only company."

"Sometimes your heart takes over for your mind," Dr. Michael Kay, of said. "It's sad because she loves the pet and it's her only attachment, reminding her of her son.

"We get into this business (veterinary services) because we love animals and we can't save them all and we can't have a free clinic or we can't help anybody," he said. "But sometimes your heart just takes over."
