The Greater Atlanta Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure recently granted Cobb County Public Health $142,500 in support of its Mammography for Women 40 to 49 program. The organization has received 18 grants from Komen Atlanta since 1994, totaling nearly $1.28 million.

Cobb and Douglas County Public Health Department provides breast health education, screening and diagnostic assessment for underinsured and uninsured women between the ages of 40 to 49. As Cobb County has the fourth highest breast cancer mortality rate in Georgia, the program’s goal is to diagnose breast cancer at an early stage and optimally increase treatment options and survival rates for both Cobb and Douglas counties.

“Cobb County Public Health’s Mammography for Women 40 to 49 program fills a breast healthcare disparity in the Metro Atlanta area and aims to eliminate the extremely high late-stage diagnosis rate in Cobb County,” said Karen Bragman, board president.
