1280 Pounds of Food Donated to Shelter

Pet Things pet store has donated 1280 pounds of dog and cat food to the Douglas County Animal Shelter.

Knowing that the Douglas County Animal Shelter is full of animals due to the litter season, Pet Things owner Terry Brlecic and his family donated 1280 pounds of cat and dog food to the Douglas County Animal Shelter on Thursday.  The Brlecic family - Terry, wife Cathy, and son Brandon - own five dogs of their own and have been very active in the placing animals with forever families, including hosting adoption clinics at their store almost every Saturday. In addition, the Brlecic family takes a dog from the Douglas County Animal Shelter, fully vets them, and fosters them at home and at the store until it is adopted.  Since January, they have been able to foster and adopt four dogs from the Shelter and four dogs rescued from other sources. Pet Things also takes animal adoption requests and posts them in the store in an effort to match animal and owner.

Pet Things has become somewhat of a central location for the Douglas County animal community and animal lovers. So far in 2013, the Brlecic family has donated over a ton of cat and dog food to the Animal Shelter, and has been very active in the Shelter’s reorganization and updating.

“We are grateful to the Brlecic family and Pet Things for their commitment to our animals and to Douglas County”, said Douglas County Animal Control/Purchasing Director Bill Peacock. “They obviously give from the heart, and we are a better community because of their presence here.”
