31st Annual ‘For the Love of Children’ Dinner Dance and Silent Auction

On March 15, FOCUS, the Atlanta-based organization that serves almost 3,000 local families of children with disabilities or ongoing medical needs, will host its 31st annual fundraising event, ‘For the Love of Children’ at the Thalia N. Carlos Hellenic Community Center.

“This year, we honor Angie and Skip Weiland for their tireless work, generosity and dedication to FOCUS,’” says Lucy Cusick, Executive Director of FOCUS, the non-profit organization that was started in 1983. “Inspired by their great love for Bret, their son with special needs, Angie and Skip have helped countless parents by sharing their personal experiences,” notes Cusick.  “Angie and Skip give generously of their time, energy and resources.”

“Every year at our ‘For the Love of Children’ gala, FOCUS parents, doctors, volunteers and supporters come together for a sparkling evening to celebrate FOCUS, our children and families, and the programs we offer thanks to the support of our guests,” says Cusick. “In addition, we raise awareness of our organization and the many services we provide.”

FOCUS was founded in 1983 when two medically fragile children shared a hospital room at then Egleston Hospital for Children.  The parents of these children became friends, finding in each other friendship, information and hope.  Together, they founded FOCUS to help families cope with the overwhelming struggles of parenting a child with special needs.

Throughout the entire metropolitan Atlanta area, FOCUS hosts regular Share Groups; workshops; conferences; community respite care; Adapted Swim Team; family days at Six Flags Over Georgia, the Georgia Aquarium, and Zoo Atlanta; and various day and overnight camps, including Camp TEAM, Camp Hollywood, Camp Infinity, and Under the Stars Family Camp. Every contribution is welcome: $100 helps send a FOCUS child to day camp; $250 supports FOCUS family activities, and $500 helps send a FOCUS teenager to overnight camp www.focus-ga.org.

About FOCUS:

FOCUS began in 1983 when two medically fragile children shared a hospital room. These children had no specific diagnosis, and the parents could not find a support group. They became friends after that hospitalization, and, in each other, found comfort, information, and hope. Together, they founded FOCUS to help families cope with the overwhelming struggles of parenting a child with special needs. Through the years, FOCUS has grown to offer comfort and hope to parents and fun programs for children with disabilities. FOCUS reaches almost 3,000 families in metro Atlanta and surrounding areas.
