New Georgia Public Library in south Paulding County

On February 22nd at 2:00 Ms. Shirley Marchman will present "A Salute to Thomas A. Dorsey".  Thomas A. Dorsey was an African-American born in Villa Rica (the town just south of our library!). He wrote over 800 hymns. These hymns were recorded by Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin and others. Mr. Dorsey was a pioneer in that he was the first African-American to start a music publishing company. Two of his most famous songs are "Peace in the Valley" and "Precious Lord, Take my Hand".
