Retail and package liquor stores within the Douglasville City limits can begin selling alcohol at 12:30 p.m. today, but not all will. According to Douglasville & Douglas County for Sunday alcohol sales, the following is a list of retailers in the city of Douglasville that can start selling alcohol on Sundays starting Nov. 25: All eight package liquor stores are in the city and have the option to open on Sundays, but not all will. Advance voting for the State Senate District 30 Republican Runoff for Douglas County voters will be held Tuesday through Friday, Nov. 27 to 30, in the Voter Registration Office, first floor, of the Douglas County Courthouse. The Republican run-off for the nomination is between Bill Hembree and Mike Dugan. The following Douglas County precincts are in State Senate District 30. Therefore, only voters in the following precincts are eligible to vote in the run-off election. The run-off election will be held Tuesday, Dec. 4, and all applicable precincts will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters who were registered by Oct. 9 are eligible to vote in the runoff, even if they did not vote in the primary on Nov. 6. Voters in three states—Maine, Maryland and Washington—approved same-sex marriage, joining the lot that already includes Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. Meanwhile, though it remains illegal in Minnesota, voters there rejected a constitutional amendment to ban it. Package and convenient stores in Douglasville will be able to sell alcohol on Sunday, Nov. 25, thanks to an overwhelming show of support at the polls Tuesday. City voters passed the law with 2,429 votes, or 70 percent, to 1,060 votes against, or 30 percent. When the City voted to put it on the ballot they also voted on the revised ordinance, setting an effective date of Nov. 21, a Wednesday. The County, however, only voted to put it on the ballot and have not yet voted on the effective date. The next scheduled voting meeting of the County Commission is Nov. 20, so it could be as early as Nov. 25. Alexander earned 11,813 votes, or 52.35 percent, while Snelling collected 47.64 percent, earning a total of 10,747 votes. House District 66 represents Douglas County and a portion of Paulding County. Georgia voters gave the state more authority over charter schools on Tuesday, passing a constitutional amendment empowering a commission to overrule local school districts that reject charter school petitions. With all counties fully reporting, the hotly contested amendment had support of 58.5 percent of voters. See selected county results below. President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan, according to network projections. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST.
