The high school baseball season has been going on for over 10 weeks now, but for most teams it ends Friday. Alexander will be hosting the game of the day in the Douglasville Patch. The Cougars will be shooting to improve their seeding for next week's state tournament. If Alexander – currently tied for second in Region 5-AAAA with an 9-3 record – can get past Lithia Springs Friday at Lithia Springs, then they could earn a home field advantage for next week's playoffs. An Alexander win combined with losses by Pope and Kell would give the Cougars the No. 1 seed out of the region. However, a …
The boys state soccer tournament starts Wednesday and that's good news if you're an Alexander Cougar fan. Alexander will be taking a five-game winning streak into its first round matchup against Lambert. The Cougars dominated the final five games of their schedule, outscoring their opponents 20-3. Not to be outdone, Lambert will also be entering the game on a hot streak. The Longhorns won their final five regular season games, outscoring their opponents 21-3. Also of note, Lambert is Georgia's No. 1 ranked team in class 4A. Boys Soccer Alexander at Lambert 7:30 p.m. Tuesday's Scoreboard …
The high school baseball season is down to its final week, and somehow Region 5-AAAA remains a mystery. Not one of the of the 14 teams in the region has officially clinched a playoff spot. However, that could change today for Alexander. At 8-3 in region play, the Cougars are tied with Kell and South Paulding for second place in the region; at 9-2, Pope is a game up on all three teams. An Alexander win Tuesday over Hiram, combined with a loss by fifth-place North Paulding, would officially put the Cougars in the playoffs. However, if Alexander loses, the Cougars could drop as low as fifth in …
Updated 4:30 p.m. The Georgia High School Association has announced the qualifiers for the state golf championships from Region 5-AAAA. The top two teams in the region tournament advance, along with the low individual scorer from a team that didn't qualify. The Douglas County schools were shut out on the boys side, but Alexander won the girls title with a combined score of 197, 19 strokes ahead of second-place North Paulding. See the results below for how all the local teams finished. Posted 9:30 a.m. If you're hoping to catch some high school sports action in Douglasville today, you have …
Although there are a couple of high school sporting events being played around Douglasville on Friday, there will be action on Saturday also. If you're an early riser, then plan to be at North Paulding High School by 9 a.m. for the beginning of the Region 5-AAAA track championships. The boys and girls teams from Chapel Hill, Alexander and Douglas County will all be competing. The teams with the top times will qualify for May's state meet. On Saturday, set your alarm for noon. That's when Douglasville rivals Alexander and Douglas County will meet on the diamond at Douglas County. The Tigers …
With only four games left in the regular season, every game is big for the Douglas County baseball team. The Tigers – who are currently sitting in sixth place in region 4-AAAAA – need to be in fourth place by April 29 if they want to make the playoffs. The push for the postseason begins Wednesday when they travel to South Paulding. At 5-4 in region play, Douglas County only trails third place South Paulding (6-3) by one game. If the Tiger's can earn a win Wednesday, that would move them into a tie for fourth place, exactly where they need to be as they head into the final week of the regular …
The high school soccer regular season will be winding down this week – the state tournament starts next Tuesday – but before it does, the Douglasville Patch will see a full slate of games Tuesday. Both the boys and girls teams at Douglas County and Chapel Hill will be hosting games on April 19. The Tigers will be playing North Paulding while the Panthers will play host to East Paulding. In the both cases, the girls game will start at 5:30 p.m. with the boys game beginning at 7. Alexander High School will head down the road to take on Lithia Springs while King's Way will travel to Seton …
When Chapel Hill and Douglas County meet on the baseball field on April 18, there's going to be a lot on the line: namely region positioning and bragging rights. With only six games left in the season, both teams could use a win Monday to improve their playoff chances in Region 5-AAAA. At 3-5, Chapel Hill currently finds themselves two games out of fourth place. The fourth spot in the region standings is important because that's team makes the playoff; fifth place doesn't. At 4-3, Douglas County is in a slightly better situation as the Tigers are only a half game out of fourth place. The two …
The question of who's the fastest high school in Douglasville will be answered Friday when the Douglas County track championships kick off at Chapel Hill High School. When it comes to high school sports, there's not much going in the Douglasville Patch area on Wednesday. The only school in action is Chapel Hill and all three teams will be hitting the road. After seven consecutive region games, the Panther baseball team will be in non-region action today when they travel to Landmark Christian. The Fairburn based private school is currently sitting in second place in Region 9-A. On the soccer field, both the boys and girls teams will be in action tonight at Kell High School. The boys will kick things off first with a 5:55 pm start time, the girls will start …
Four area tennis teams will be headed to Marietta Tuesday to try and seal a bid to the state tournament. The four qualifiers from Region 5-AAAA will all make the state tournament and the number of teams left standing in the region tournament currently sits at eight – that number will be trimmed to four by the end of the day. On the girl's side, Douglas County will have to get past Kell to advance the region semifinals. A semifinal berth of course also means a state tournament berth. The Lady Tigers are 9-1 so far this season. Also on the girls side, Chapel Hill will have to get by Sprayberry …
Although students are headed back to school today after a week long spring break, the same can't be said for Douglasville area sports teams. With the exception of the boys soccer and girls tennis teams at King's Way Christian school, all other Douglasville sports teams have the day off. As for the two King's Way teams, the girls tennis team will be traveling to Columbia High School for a 3:30 p.m. showdown while the boys soccer team will host Castle Rock in a 4 p.m. game. Look for the high school sports action to jumpstart tomorrow as many area baseball, tennis and soccer teams will be in …
If you’re a baseball fan and you can't make it the Braves home opener, you do have a second option: Douglas County High School. Friday at 7 p.m., the Tigers will host Temple in a non-region showdown. Temple – a class AA school – comes into the game on a five-game winning streak and should provide Douglas County with a good test before region play starts again tomorrow. The Tigers (11-5) might me a little rusty going into the game as they haven't hit the field for a game since March 31. Baseball Temple at Douglas County 7 p.m. We want to make the Douglasville Patch the place to go for all the…
With each high school in Doulgasville Patch on spring break, there's not a lot of sports action on tap Wednesday as Alexander will be the only local team to take the field. The Cougars (10-6) will be making the 4-hour bus trip to Statesboro to take on Statesboro High School. Alexander will be looking to end a two game skid, losses to region rivals Sprayberry and North Paulding last week dropped the Cougars from 4-0 in region play to 4-2. Today's game against Statesboro (4-11) is a non-region game. Baseball Douglasville Patch has Alexander at Statesboro at 5:30 p.m. We want to make …
