Pet Things Donates 925 Pounds of Cat, Dog Food to Shelter

Pet Things owner Terry Brlecic and his family recently donated 925 pounds of cat and dog food to the Douglas County Animal Shelter.

Because helping animals is “in my heart,” Pet Things owner Terry Brlecic and his family recently donated 925 pounds of cat and dog food to the Douglas County Animal Shelter. The Brlecic family - Terry, wife Cathy, and son Brandon - own five dogs of their own and have been very active in the placing animals with forever families, including hosting adoption clinics at their store almost every Saturday. Pet Things also takes animal adoption requests and posts them in the store in an effort to match animal and owner. The Brlecic family has also been involved in the reorganization of the Douglas County Animal Shelter by attending every Animal Control Advisory Board meeting since its inception, and offering volunteer services and equipment - as …

Update: Bagel Meister Reopened

Douglasville's Bagel Meister restaurant was closed at lunch time today and customers were asked to leave.

Update: 1:28 p.m. The Bagel Meister has reopened. Patch has contacted the Georgia Department of Revenue to find out more information but the call has not been returned. Original story: Douglasville's Bagel Meister restaurant was closed at lunch time today and customers asked to leave. A Georgia Department of Revenue sign is on the door saying the restaurant is temporarily closed but does not give a reason. Several of the restaurant's employess are currently sitting outside the restaurant and said they don't know what is going on but were "ushered out." The restaurant's Facebook page does not give any details. No other details are known at this time.

Is NCAA Rule Banning Hashtags Too Strict?

College football programs are not allowed to place website addresses or social media messages on the field due to rules that were recently amended by the NCAA. Tell us what you think of the athletic association’s decision.

#GoDawgs or #GoJackets? Whichever your preference, you won’t see either on an NCAA football field this fall. The NCAA’s recent “Bulletin on Field Markings, Uniforms, etc.” expressly prohibits “social media designations such as URL’s and hashtags” (Hashtags are words or phrases that are preceded by the # symbol that can be used online to group messages together or to rally support for a common cause, such as for a favorite team.). The rule means that while you may see your fellow fans using Twitter and other social media platforms while at the game, you won’t see “#SicemDawgs” between the hedges at Sanford Stadium or “#GaTech” on Historic Grant Field in Bobby Dodd Stadium.
