The City of Douglasville will hold its annual Summer Sampler on May 31 at the Le Jardin Blanc. The Summer Sampler is a fundraising event presented by the Douglasville Downtown Development Authority. Tickets entitle each guest to a Summer Sampler souvenir glass, light hors d’oeuvres, live music and sample wine and food tasting. More county residents found jobs in April.
Douglas County's unemployment rate fell below 8 percent to 7.9 percent in April. There were approximately 380 fewer people unemployed, with 63,236 residents working. Paulding County's jobless rate dropped by half a percent to 7.2 percent. Out of the 73,122 people in the work force, 5,262 were unemployed in April. The unemployment rate in Cobb County dropped below 7 percent in April, a fall of three tenths of a percent. Almost 1,000 more county residents were working than in the previous month. Of the 377,630 people in the Cobb County labor force, 25,896 were unemployed in April. A year ago the unemployment rate was up to 8 percent. A church in metro Atlanta is needed for filming of the movie All Saints. This movie is based on a true story about a young pastor who helps save a struggling church in Tennessee by helping the parishioners open their own farm next door. This is a very family-friendly movie, according to Kevin W. Kirby, Paulding Chamber of Commerce. Pictures of the two churches (attached) are similar to what they are looking for. Here are the particulars of what is needed: 1. The church needs to sit next to a large field (30 acres or so) that could possibly be turned into farm land with crops. 2. Because helping animals is “in my heart,” Pet Things owner Terry Brlecic and his family recently donated 925 pounds of cat and dog food to the Douglas County Animal Shelter. The Brlecic family - Terry, wife Cathy, and son Brandon - own five dogs of their own and have been very active in the placing animals with forever families, including hosting adoption clinics at their store almost every Saturday. Pet Things also takes animal adoption requests and posts them in the store in an effort to match animal and owner. The Brlecic family has also been involved in the reorganization of the Douglas County Animal Shelter by attending every Animal Control Advisory Board meeting since its inception, and offering volunteer services and equipment - as …

Douglasville's Bagel Meister restaurant was closed at lunch time today and customers were asked to leave.
Update: 1:28 p.m. The Bagel Meister has reopened. Patch has contacted the Georgia Department of Revenue to find out more information but the call has not been returned. Original story: Douglasville's Bagel Meister restaurant was closed at lunch time today and customers asked to leave. A Georgia Department of Revenue sign is on the door saying the restaurant is temporarily closed but does not give a reason. Several of the restaurant's employess are currently sitting outside the restaurant and said they don't know what is going on but were "ushered out." The restaurant's Facebook page does not give any details. No other details are known at this time.
