Yesterday was a sad day for the animals and the citizens of Douglas County Georgia.

Yesterday Tracy Thompson resigned as animal shelter supervisor from Douglas county animal control.

Tracy was a dedicated employee who always sought to provide the best benefit and the best outcome for all animals brought into the Douglas county animal shelter. Tracy has been instrumental in working with rescues and volunteers and volunteering her time to help find homes for the homeless animals of Douglas county. Tracy's efforts are responsible for a large part of the success of DCAC over the past year and the ability to increase rescues, adoptions and the lowering of the euthanasia rate to 16% for the entire year.

Tracy's contributions to those efforts will be immediately and noticeably felt by her absence. Tracy spent countless hours medicating sick animals and seeking veterinary care for the injured, while volunteering her own time to transport animals to rescues and veterinary care.

Her last official act as a county animal shelter employee was to take two injured dogs for veterinary care yesterday. Service to the citizens of Douglas county will now be greatly reduced and to a more significant extent, the care and welfare that Tracy provided to the animals under her care will no longer be present at the shelter. The citizens of Douglas county will suffer from the loss of this dedicated employee, but more tragically, countless animals in Douglas county will no longer have the benefit of her caring attention to their needs and the hands on attention that she provided to animals and citizens.

I want to personally thank her and wish her the best, as I know that wherever she goes in her career from this point forward, the animals and the people that she comes in contact with will be the better for her having been part of their lives.
