Woman Fatally Stabbed by 14-Year-Old Great-Grandson, Grandmother Also Cut
Police found the 77-year-old woman dead in the front yard after being stabbed with a three-foot long sword.
A 77-year-old woman is dead after being stabbed by her 14-year-old great-grandson, at about 5 p.m. on the 3400 block of Spring Ridge Drive in Douglasville. He also cut his grandmother on the arm, who was sent to a nearby hospital, Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller said. He said the wound did not look life-threatening.
The 14-year-old used a pellet gun to hit a police dog in the head and then shot out two windows of a police car. He was finally captured and will be charged with murder, Miller said.
"We received a call at 5:10 p.m. that a 14-year-old had a sword and people were injured and that we needed to get there quickly," he said.
"When we arrived, there was a 77-year-old, white, female deceased in the front yard and there was a young man carrying a three-foot-long sword and a pellet gun," Miller said. "He shot out two windows in a patrol car. We did everything we could not to shoot him."
Miller said a dog was then released to stop him and the boy hit the dog in the head with the pellet gun. The SWAT team then used a flash-bang device to distract him and deputies were able to get close enough to tase him and take him into custody.
Miller said this is the third time the Sheriff's Office has been called to the residence since June. On one occasion the 14-year-old had cut his grandmother on the foot.
"We were called out there again in July," Miller said. "We had to hog-tie him. When we took him to the hospital they evaluated him and then released him."
Miller said there will be a lengthy investigation and that names of the vicitims will not be released until the family members have been notified.
