Villa Rica Home Destroyed Overnight

Lois Shead was on vacation in Pigeon Forge, TN., with her daughter and came home today to find her home of 24 years, destroyed with only a chimney stack left standing.

A family has returned to Liberty Rd., in Villa Rica, after being on vacation to find their home in ruins, burned to the ground.

The Chief Fire Investigator has found no evidence of any type of explosion in the overnight fire, according to a press release by Wes Tallon, director of Douglas County Communications.

Neighbors reported hearing explosions and said flames could be seen for miles, the WSB-TV report said.

There was no propane tank explosion, according to the county's release.

The propane tank was located more than 25 yards away from the house, and a Douglas County firefighter cut off the propane gas valve to prevent any explosion.Β 

The home owners are currently meeting with the fire investigators to give personal knowledge of the house and its contents so that the investigation into the fire cause can begin.
