Yes, I am going to buy today just to stick my nose up at the know-it-all Baptists. I have been so disgusted at the drive to push their brand of religion onto everyone else in this county. Maybe one day they will look you in the eye while they are standing in line to purchase their beer and say hello.

Apparently some retailers are limiting the hours they will sell alcohol. Publix on Highway 5, is not starting until 12:30 p.m., and ending at 10:00 p.m. Guess it is a make up the rules as you go kind of thing! So much for listening to the people. Don't think the ballot said what hours do you want to be able to purchase on Sunday.....

The question on the city of Douglasville special election ballot read as follows:

“Shall the governing authority of the City of Douglasville, Georgia be authorized to permit and regulate package sales by retailers of malt beverages, wine and distilled spirits on Sundays between the hours of 12:30 P.M. and 11:30 P.M.?”

I am not a member of any religious group. I don't like seeing people making a profit on so many people's addiction. Why is it so important for people to get alcohol 7 days a week? I don't like the city and county making a profit on this either. They eventually get more tax dollars. What a way to earn money! There's definitely an increase in people's suffering with more accidents, alcoholics abusing not only adults but children and also, children drinking at a young age. Why encourage this?

Linda your seem to assume that everyone who drinks is addicted (They're Not), everyone who drinks will drive (They Won't), everyone who drinks is abusive (Again They're Not). Alcohol is a product like any other, and some people will use it irresponsibly, but rest assured that the people who do abuse alcohol, that do drive, that do abuse their loved ones, that are addicted would be using some other substance, legal or otherwise. If you restrict a product based on the fact that it MIGHT be abused, then you won't be able to sell anything, ever. Besidese it is awfully paternalistic to assume we need the goverment to baby proof the world for us becuase someone might abuse something.

As far as making profits go, would you rather they give the product away tax free rather than collect the revenue? What good would that do anyone? I don't want to put you on the defensive here, I'm not attacking you or your ideas, but it seems like you are wishing for unicorns and fairydust here rather than a viable real world solution that doesn't restrict the rights of every one for the poor behavior of the few.

I won't be buying it today, but that's only because I am out of town seeing family. There is nothing wrong with drinking alcohol, it is the people who don't use it responsibly who are the problem. In general, if we taught our children and ourselves to have self control and to act responsibly we wouldn't have half the problems we do now.

So funny at how many people have lived their lives with their head in a hole.
So many states, you can buy liquor in any grocery store 7 days a week.
Get out sometime and see how the rest of the world lives.

WoW now that's a real intelligent reason to buy alcohol so you can thumb your nose at the Baptist.

I forgot that Sunday sales were to start today so I made an special trip yesterday, remembering would have saved me some gas and time. Holiday dinners, baking and gift giving make a trip for spirits a tradition for us this time of year. "T" is correct about many other states and countries around the world, it was weird moving back and getting used to restricted service and sales.
