Police: Code Enforcement Officer Steals Campaign Signs

A Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy saw a woman stealing Elect Sheriff Phil Miller campaign signs over the weekend. She was arrested Monday.

Marnitta Ballard, 39, was arrested Monday and charged with theft by taking after a Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy witnessed her stealing campaign signs over the weekend, according to wsbtv.com.

Ballard is a Fulton County code enforcement officer, wsbtv.com said.

Investigator Trent Wilson told Channel 2 Action News that he had seen her "driving a truck from which an accomplice hopped out and stole a re-election sign for his boss, Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller."

Ballard has been released from the Douglas County Jail on $1,500 bond, according to arrest records.

Hmmm, just how dumb do you have to be to steal something in broad daylight belonging to the sheriff? Great idea. Perhaps the sentence should be that she has to take down and return all of Phil Miller's signs once the election is over.

That is an awesome Idea. I think that she should not only have to remove Miller's signs but all campaign signs in the entire county after the election.

If she is CODE Enforcement ..mabe she wasnt STEALING the signs , Maybe they were blocking something or violating a code. I have seen MANY of these stupid signs blocking things that we NEED To see.People dont really know where to place them they just plop them anywhere.. There are many communities where Community code allows for NO SIGNS be placed on a lawn or certain property. ...Just sayn....hey if she was stealing well thats just stupid then hahahaa....and Community service is in order in that case !!!!

She was stealing. Fulton co. enforcement has absolutely no authority in Douglas County.

If the signs were illegal then she could of made a complaint to the sheriff and I know he would of done something to move them. These code enforcement officers including Douglas county's feel they have unlimited power and need to be arrested. All they do is love to harass hard working tax paying citizens.

There is a statute here in Georgia that relates to violating her oath of office. When she allegedly used her status as a FULTON County Code enforcement Officer to commit a crime in Douglas County, she committed a felony. She violated her oath of office. If she did the crime, she should do the time. Off to the pokey she goes with the rest of the accused thieves.

She was doing a public service. I don't need to see a Phil Miller sign every 50 yards. Isn't he running unopposed anyway?!
