The City of Douglasville is proud to announce a ribbon cutting and open house will be held showcasing Hunter Park’s new athletic complex Saturday, Oct. 15. The event will take place at Hunter Park’s Miracle League baseball field located at 8830 Gurley Rd. Activities will begin with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. followed by an open house from noon to 4 p.m. The public is invited to join in the celebration. Mayor Mickey Thompson and members of the City Council will throw the first pitch to kick off the open house and five opening baseball games that will be played that day.
The Hunter Park Athletic Complex features six new baseball fields and five renovated fields, which includes seven youth baseball fields, two girls fast-pitch and two adult softball fields. The project also included the construction of a Miracle League baseball field, home to the City of Douglasville’s Miracle League Baseball program—a specially designed program for children four years of age and up with disabilities to play baseball. Hunter Park’s athletic complex features the first Miracle League baseball field built in west Georgia.
The complex also offers 12 batting cages and new Musco designed field lighting. The facility features a seven-court, Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA) certified tennis center and more than 1.5 miles of sidewalks. The Webb press box was rebuilt and two restroom and shelter facilities were added, in addition to more than 650 parking spaces.
At the open house, visitors will have the opportunity to see the new state-of-the-art facility and enjoy popcorn, face painting and moonwalks for children. For more information, contact Hunter Park Athletic Director Meiko Bercich at 678-715-6059.
