Lap Dances, Other Violations Cause Gipson's Bar and Grill to Close

Gipson's Bar and Grill permanently closed at 5 p.m. Monday in anticipation of the City of Douglasville revoking the restaurant's alcohol retail sales license. Owners of Gibson's preempted a public hearing on the matter, scheduled for Monday evening's City Council meeting, by writing a letter (attached) to the Mayor and City Council voluntarily surrendering their alcohol retail sales license. The letter also notified the Council of the bar's closing.
Chief Assistant City Attorney Suzan Littlefield addressed the City Council (video attached) during Monday's meeting, stating that if a public hearing had been held, the City would have presented evidence that Gipson's offered lap dances for customers without an adult entertainment license. The bar was also accused of selling alcoholic beverages to minors on three occasions and failed to pay pouring tax fees and make monthly sales reports.

What bothers me is that people drive to a place like G. and drink. Then they get in their car and drive home. When people are on a public road and they have been drinking, then it is our business. Look at how many wrecks and deaths happen each year because people drink and drive.

People drink and drive from most all restaurants in Douglasville. Gipsons (if you wanted to call it a restaurant) was operating outside the law. If you want to go to these type of establishments, try Cheshire Bridge Road in Atlanta (at least for now). Let's face it folks, it ain't happening in Douglasville.
