City Businesses Can Start Sunday Sales on Nov. 25

Package and convenient stores in Douglasville will be able to sell alcohol on Sunday, Nov. 25, thanks to an overwhelming show of support at the polls Tuesday. City voters passed the law with 2,429 votes, or 70 percent, to 1,060 votes against, or 30 percent.
When the City voted to put it on the ballot they also voted on the revised ordinance, setting an effective date of Nov. 21, a Wednesday. The County, however, only voted to put it on the ballot and have not yet voted on the effective date. The next scheduled voting meeting of the County Commission is Nov. 20, so it could be as early as Nov. 25.
Douglas County voters approved Sunday Sales with 34,305 votes, or 63.46 percent, and 19,754 votes against, or 36.54. And Douglas County approved Sunday Sales by the Drink with 34,354 votes for, or 63.20 percent, and 20,004 votes against, or 36.80 percent.
"It's obvious the people of Douglasville and Douglas County want this," said Richard Segal, chairman of Yes for Douglas County (video attached). "Clearly the people of this County want to keep dollars in Douglas. We're pleasantly surprised as well. We thought it would be a lot closer."
