The Douglasville Mayor and City Council honored Marine Lance Cpl. Scott "Boots" Harper at the Council meeting Monday night by making a presentation to his Step Mother, Angela Harper (video attached).

Harper was an Alexander High School graduate who died during a combat mission in Afghanistan in Oct. 2011. He was operating in Helmand province as part of Operation Enduring Freedom when he suffered fatal injuries.

A portion of Douglas Boulevard will be honorarily named for "Boots" Harper on Friday, Nov. 9 in a dedication ceremony, held from 1:30 to 2 p.m.

The ceremony will take place at the western entrance to Arbor Place Mall and Olive Garden, with the unveiling of the sign revealing his name. The program is open to the public with free admission.

Although the street will not legally change its name, there will be signs on either side of Douglas Boulevard that will honor the 21-year-old Marine Lance Cpl.
